Wensley Road / Queen Street Roundabout to be Installed

Tuesday 15 October 2013

A roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Wensley Road and Queen Street, Richmond, over the next few weeks.

Tasman District Council Transportation Manager Gary Clark says the low-cost roundabout will also provide a new entry / exit point to the main Richmond car park area which serves Richmond Mall, K Mart, The Warehouse and Couplands.

“By aligning the end of Wensley Road with the entrance to the main car park, we achieve a much better outcome for all road users, including pedestrians,” Mr Clark said.

“The roundabout will reduce vehicle speed on Queen Street and improve accessibility to the parking area.”

The road will be partially closed tonight and tomorrow night from 6pm, and open again from 6am each morning.

  • Motorists are advised that road works will be taking place, there may be some delays associated with road construction. Signage is in place for the partial road closure.
  • Road users are asked to be patient while construction takes place. Alternative routes, such as Oxford Street and Talbot Street, are available.
  • As part of the Richmond Town Centre Project and stormwater improvements, a more permanent roundabout is planned for construction in 2016.
