Getting ready for Cyclone Debbie’s last lash

Tuesday 4 April 2017

To prepare for the final lash of Cyclone Debbie’s tail, Nelson and Tasman residents are advised to take a few practical precautions to ensure we cope with the rain and wind.

Some severe weather is forecast to hit tomorrow, so people should take the time now to make sure their gutters and the stormwater grates on their property are clear. At the same time, take a step outside and clear the leaves away from the grates in the street outside your property.

The Councils try to get to as many as possible, but in autumn the number of leaves make it difficult to keep them clear for any period of time.

As there are high to gale winds predicted it is time to make sure the outdoor furniture is secure as well as that sail commonly called the ‘kids’ trampoline’.

Residents are also reminded to avoid parks with large trees during high winds. Please keep out of these areas until the wind eases.

The forecasts will be updated on the Nelson Tasman Civil Defence Emergency management website as, and when, they are updated by Metservice.
