Tasman Mayor Congratulates Green Ribbon Finalists

Friday 2 June 2017

Tasman Mayor Richard Kempthorne is thrilled to congratulate Port Nelson and the Nelson Mail for being named finalists for the 2017 Green Ribbon Awards.

“It’s fantastic to see local environmental innovations being recognised. I’d like to congratulate both Port Nelson and the Nelson Mail.

“I’m particularly proud of the efforts Port Nelson has made to reduce vehicle emissions through the QuayConnect initiative.

"QuayConnect has reduced the number of trucks travelling between Nelson and Marlborough by 14 trips each day – that’s a significant reduction in emissions while still transporting the same amount of freight between our regions. Well done to everyone involved in this great project.”

Tasman District Council is a 50% owner of Port Nelson, along with Nelson City Council.

The national Green Ribbon awards celebrate exceptional initiatives by individuals, communities and organisations to protect and manage New Zealand’s environment. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Parliament on 8 June.
