Crescent Street Intersection Changes
Thursday 25 August 2011
Earlier this year Tasman District Council approved the partial closure of Crescent Street at the Wensley Road intersection after public consultation clearly indicated this being the preferred option. This option only permits traffic from Wensley Road to turn into Crescent Street whilst traffic on Crescent Street is barred from entering on to Wensley Road.
The above change will alter the traffic flow and hence dominant traffic movement at the Blair Terrace/Crescent Street intersection. Therefore it is proposed to alter the intersection priority control at this intersection as well as installing new road markings and some parking restrictions on Crescent Street near Shearer Terrace.
The improvements at Crescent Street and Blair Terrace intersection consists of installing two traffic islands and remarking the road surface to define the Crescent Street Intersection Changes. The new priority route will be along Blair Terrace and right on to the northern leg of Crescent Street and vice versa. Vehicles travelling along the western leg of Crescent Street from Wensley Road direction will be required to give way at this intersection.
Please note that for safety reasons parking will be restricted around the intersection where the proposed changes are planned, see attached plan for details. The nearby private accessways will continue to operate as normal. Further safety improvements will involve marking a section of centreline over the crest curve on the northern leg of Crescent Street near Shearer Terrace as well as limiting parking along the western side of the road also near Shearer Terrace as shown on the attached plan.
Should you have any comments or concerns regarding both the planned changes to the intersection of Crescent Street and Blair Terrace or the parking restriction proposed along the western side of Crescent Street near Shearer Terrace, please contact Council's Transportation Projects Engineer, Steve Elkington phone 03 543 8575.
