Access to Kahurangi National Park
Friday 24 August 2012
Due to a massive slip, the Graham Valley Road South Branch - which provides access to the Flora Car Park and the Kahurangi National Park - is closed to all vehicles and pedestrians.
Road closed signage is in place and it is likely the road will remain closed for some time until it is cleared.
The land is very unstable with sizeable rock falls. The Department of Conservation recommends access should not be attempted due to the risk of injury.
Despite two months of work a further slip has now made the situation worse. It is now estimated that the access will not be open until at least 1 December 2012. Visitors are advised not to make any plans to use the access for the 2012/2013 season until clearance is provided by the Department of Conservation.
