McKee Campsite Opens Friday 19 October

Monday 8 October 2018

The McKee Memorial Recreation Reserve campsite at Ruby Bay will reopen on Friday 19 October, in time for campers to enjoy a long weekend at the popular site.

Initially numbers will be limited to 100 - 150 people. The reason for the reduced camping numbers is to allow us to test the newly-upgraded sewerage system and gather data that will determine how many people the system can comfortably support.

If the results from the first few weeks of data are positive, we hope to be able to increase camping numbers closer to their pre-storm levels in time for the Christmas holiday period.

McKee campground has been closed for camping since a large storm in February, which inundated the site and overwhelmed the site's infrastructure. After a big clean-up effort and upgrades to the sewerage and stormwater systems, the camp will once more offer a low-cost family camping option.
