Water Supply Interruption - Pohara
Wednesday 22 February 2012
Rain has led to the water feeding the Pohara treatment plant becoming unusable due to contamination by mud.
The plant has been shut down.
The storage tank has drained due to a leak in the system and this means that a piped water supply is currently unavailable. In order to detect the leak the tank must be filled with clean water and it is anticipated that the water source will not clear until Monday at the earliest.
Water supply at Pohara Hall and Onetahua Marae
Fonterra will fill the drinking water tanks at Onetahua Marae and the Pohara Hall this evening with a potable water supply. These tanks will be refilled as required. Once the leak has been detected and the plant recommissioned, people will be notified directly.
However, is recommended that all your drinking water be boiled for at least one minute for the following:
- Drinking water
- Food preparation
- Utensil washing
- Cleaning your teeth
- Pets
- Ice
