Walking Our Streets – Let’s Make It OK!
 
The Te Rito Family Violence Prevention Network is calling the community into action with a Public Panel and a Community Conference on the topic of safety on our streets. Two amazing events presented under the banner: Walking our Streets – Let’s Make It OK! Take this opportunity to come along, ask those hard questions and get involved.

Richmond Community Health Group Meeting
 
There is an increasing number of health-based agencies establishing in the Waimea/Richmond area.
The Richmond Community Health group is inviting community groups/individuals to attend a meeting to gauge if there is sufficient interest to establish a network of groups who address the needs of the Richmond population.
This group would provide a venue for networking and support for those with an interest in the health and wellbeing of the community.

The meeting will be held Wednesday 4 August 12.00 noon – 1.00 pm in the Wangapeka meeting room at Tasman District Council, Queen Street.
A light lunch will be provided. RSVP by Monday 26 July 2010.

Appleby School - Country Fair
 
Saturday 4 September 2010, 11.00am - 2.00pm.
Lots of fun for the whole family. Animal nursery, pony rides, bouncy castles, silent auction, plant, produce, clothing, book, and white elephant stalls – bargains galore. Live entertainment and food stalls. Come and join us for a great day out.





Welcome to the Godwits Celebration
 
Competitions - as part of the celebration to welcome the godwits to Motueka after their epic journey from Alaska, the Motueka Arts Council will have a display in the Memorial Hall on the weekend of 11 & 12 September 2010. You are invited to enter the following competitions:
Short Story, Poetry and Photography (for adults)
Art (for students)

The subject for all competitions is:
Motueka Sandspit and Estuary, Summer home of the Godwits.

1) Short Story Competition: 500-800 words, double-spaced on A4 paper.
2) Poetry Competition: any number of words, double-spaced on A4 paper.
3) Photography Competition: prints 6 x 8 inches, mounted white A4 card. Write your name, address, phone number and email on a separate sheet and attach to your entry. Send or deliver your entry to Potter’s Patch, 188 High Street, Motueka by 4pm Friday 3rd September.
4) Student’s Art Competition: 3 sections, Years 1-4; Years 5-8; Years 9-13. Any media, 2 or 3 D. Art works to be dropped off at 4 Michael Meyers St (off Poole Street.) Include name of school and school year with your name, address and phone number.

All entries will be displayed in the Motueka Memorial Hall on 11 & 12 September 2010.
Prizes will be awarded on Saturday 11th September. All entries will need to be collected from the Memorial Hall between 4pm-6pm, Sunday 12 September.

Winter Delights and Diversions
 
Belly dancing, Garden Design, Photography, Morris dancing, Life Drawing, Introduction to Screen Printing and Fabric Painting, and Photo Framing are the new topics for this year’s Motueka Arts Council Winter Workshop series.
Old favourites like Basket Making, Felting, Watercolour painting, Writing, Stone Carving,
and Terracotta Garden Art are back. Some like Floral Arrangements, Mosaics, Fabric Dolls, Singing (with Barbie Cole) and Drumming, which have been off the scene for a year or two, are making a reappearance.
The courses begin mid-July and continue until mid-September 2010.
The workshop programme is available from the Council libraries, the Hospice Shop and Westrupp Jewellers, in Motueka’s High Street. The co-ordinator, Jane Wells, is accepting enrolments, Email patandjane@xtra.co.nz or Ph 03 543 2996.





Plunket Baby Bonanza
 
Saturday 13 November 2010, 9am – 12noon, Hope Hall, Main Road Hope.
There will be over 50 stalls of second hand toys, clothes and other baby/child orientated products, plus a cake stall and sausage sizzle to raise funds for Plunket. Come along and grab a bargain. Entry $2.

Rabbit Island is closed for public firewood collection during the month of July 2010. Firewood will be available again in August and September 2010.



Richmond Laughter Yoga

Living with Type 2 Diabetes
 
Free, six week education course in Richmond.

Starting 6 May 2010 from 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm, then every Thursday untill the 10 June 2010.

Richmond & Districts Information Centre
 
Volunteers are required to work three or four hour shifts on a weekly or fortnightly basis at the Information Centre in Gladstone Road. Successful applicants would be required to work with more experienced volunteers initially before being asked to work on their own. Applicants should have a knowledge of the local community, be well presented and enjoy meeting and conversing with visitors from all over New Zealand and the world. The Centre is well appointed with good facilities. If you are interested in this type of work, call in to the Centre or phone 03 543 9521 for further details.

Arts Council Nelson administers grants up to a maximum of $500, to assist arts based projects which demonstrate clear community benefits in the Richmond, Tasman and Waimea areas.

Closing dates for applications are the second Wednesday of each month.

Application forms may be uplifted from the Arts Council Office, posted out on request or may be downloaded from our website at www.acn.org.nz
