Education for Teachers
Environment studies play an important role in students' education. Many events throughout the year provide opportunities for unit studies. Environmental topics cross many curriculum boundaries and Council is keen to assist teachers and students with resources, reports, expertise, or visits, plus working together on specific council/school projects.
Throughout the year there are events like Ecofest, Clean up NZ week and Sea Week, among others, that provide great opportunities for unit studies and student participation.

Walking school buses
Walking school buses are a safe, active and healthy way for children to get to school. And they are energy efficient and non-polluting.
Short car trips between school and home consume a lot of energy in terms of fuel. And they emit tonnes of CO2 into the environment. If everyone cut the number of short trips by half, we would prevent 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. And that helps everyone breathe easier.
