Site Information

Rivers and Rainfall
River flow map and graphs

Two river flow graphs are shown for each flow site, one each for the previous 7 and 30 days. Date is shown on the bottom axis, and flow (in cubic metres per second) is shown on the vertical axis. The flow axis is automatically scaled to the data, so it will vary from one plot to the next. This is important if you are comparing graphs from different sites.

Rainfall map and graphs

Two rainfall graphs are shown for each rain site, one each for the previous 7 and 30 days. Date is shown on the bottom axis, and the total rainfall amount for the period is given at the bottom of the graph. The bars on the graph show the rainfall total over hourly periods for the 7-day graphs, and over daily intervals for the 30-day graphs. The figures on the vertical axis show either mm per hour or mm per day. As with the flow graphs, the scale of the vertical axis is set to the data and will vary from one graph to the next.

Groundwater map and graphs

Two groundwater level graphs are shown for each groundwater site, one each for the previous 7 and 30 days. The date is shown on the bottom axis, and level (in millimetres) is shown on the vertical axis.
The level is automatically scaled to the data, so it will vary from one plot to the next. This is important if you are comparing graphs from different sites.

About the maps and graphs

The data is updated twice daily at 6am and 6pm NZ Standard Time. All information can be regarded as provisional as it has not been checked using the Council's Quality Assurance procedures. Flow data in particular can be in error due to changes in the river bed, and these errors will not be apparent until Council staff next visit the site (visits are conducted monthly).

Because of this, you are cautioned not to use the data shown on this web page for decisions that may concern public safety, or when there are monetary or operational consequences.

Note that data are brought to you from remote areas via radio. If communication problems occur, and one or several sites are not up to date then we will be aware of this. However if all sites are not up to date we would appreciate being told as the problem may be with the Council's computers or web site.
