Richmond Library Grand Opening
Over 1200 people joined us to celebrate the opening of the new Richmond Library on 4 July 2010. Mayor Richard Kempthorne, along with his grandaughters Eva and Izzy, cut the ribbon and began a new chapter in the life of Tasman District Libraries.
We’re delighted with the response of our customers to the new building. The range of new spaces and facilities on offer is exciting.

Shop class as soulcraft by Matthew B Crawford
Shop Class as Soulcraft brings alive an experience that was once quite common but now seems to be receding from society - the experience of making and fixing things with our hands. Based on his own experience as an electrician and mechanic, Crawford makes a case for the intrinsic satisfactions and cognitive challenges of manual work. Such work ties us to the local communities in which we live and instills the pride that comes from doing work that is genuinely useful.
