Managing Fire Risk to New Rural Dwellings: Changes to the Tasman Resource Management Plan

Everyone is welcome to provide feedback on the draft proposed rural dwelling fire risk changes to the Tasman Resource Management Plan (TRMP). This page summarises the policy options and draft Plan changes, and includes details of how you can view the documents and send in your comments. 

Update: February 2012

Council has received comments on the draft proposal and the Environment and Planning Committee will consider them at its 29 February meeting.A decision on final proposed changes will be made at that time.

Public notification and a formal submission process will follow the decision. Further information will be available on this site and in Newsline.

Summary of Draft Proposed Changes

The Tasman District Council is intending to change the rules relating to the management of fire risk to new rural dwellings in areas where there is no water reticulation. The new requirement is for either:

  1. storage (45,000 litres); or
  2. reliable supply (25 litres/second for 30 minutes) of water within 90 metres of the house; or
  3. installation of a home sprinkler system.
