Tasman Regional Land Transport Plan 2015-2021 – Mid Term Review

Submissions Closed: 4.30 pm Friday 23 February

It is now time to carry out a mid-term review of the Regional Land Transport Plan 2015-2021. Our District is changing, and this review updates the Plan to meet the changes in the needs of our community.

The purpose of the Regional Land Transport Plan (The Plan) is to set out the region’s land transport objectives, policies, forward works programme, maintenance and operations for the next 10 years. The Plan identifies four key issues:

  • Transport constraints on growth
  • Resilience of the road network to natural hazards
  • Increases in serious crashes
  • Barriers to alternative modes of transport

 Collaborative Approach

Tasman has partnered with Nelson City Council and Marlborough District Council in collaboration with New Zealand Transport Agency to create a joint Top of the South Regional portion of the Plan that highlights our close relationship, dependency and shared circumstances.

Regional aspirations have been aligned with the national outcomes as outlined in the Draft 2018 Government Policy Statement on Land Transport. This Plan forms part of the funding submission to the Transport Agency and the National Land Transport Fund.

In addition, the Plan includes the Regional Public Transport Plan which sets out policies, services and information relating to public transport in Tasman. Tasman District and Council Nelson City Council have collaborated with shared services especially those that have cross-boundary interaction such as the bus service and Total Mobility. Over the next three years it is hoped that Tasman District Council can continue their good relationship with Nelson City Council and commission an expanded bus service in the Richmond area to meet the transport needs of this growing community.
