Background

This application seeks to replace and extend two existing consents for the discharge of herbicides for the purpose of controlling woody weed growth within flood channels for all rateable sections of rivers and streams and their margins, within the jurisdictional boundary of Tasman District, but excluding the following:

  1. Waikoropupu Springs Scenic Reserve;
  2. All rivers within Abel Tasman, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks;
  3. All waters listed in Schedule 1 (Waters to be retained in Natural State) of the Buller River Water Conservation Order 2001;
  4. All waters listed in Schedule 1 (Waters to be retained in Natural State) of the Motueka River Water Conservation Order 2004;
  5. Major Wetlands; and,
  6. The Coastal Marine Area.

Update 30 November 2015: Hearing Update

  • The hearing was opened at 9.30am this morning and then adjorned for the day at 12.15pm.
  • The applicant case has closed and only one submitter was heard in support of their submission.

  • A revised Material Safety Data Sheet for Triclopyr was tabled replacing Appendix D Triclopyr 3 of the application;

Update: Hearing Set and Pre-circulation of Evidence

  • Two Independent Commissioners have been appointed to hear and decide on the application.
  • The hearing will be held at the Headingly Centre in Headingly Lane, Richmond on Monday, Tuesday and Friday; and at the Takaka Fire Station on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • A copy of the S42A report is to be sent to the applicant, and to every submitter who stated a wish to be heard at the hearing on Friday, 6 November 2015.
