All things American descend on Queen Street, as the Main Street Procession marches into Richmond, during the Stars n Stripes Block Party Street Parade. Cheerleaders, marching band, Classic American Hot Rods and Bikes, Rock n Roll Dancers and special guests will all be on display.
The parade starts at midday, beginning from the Tasman District Council car park, and finishing up at Sundial Square, where there will be opportunities to take photos and interact with these iconic American showpieces.

An afternoon, jam packed full of classic mall entertainment, competitions and exhibitions is scheduled to take place on Monday 26 September as part of the Star’s n Stripes Block Party. The programme is to feature:
American Idol: Richmond Mall Edition
A selection of Nelson-Tasman finest singer superstars will take to the stage in American Idol: Richmond Mall Edition.
Five junior (5-12 years), and five senior (13-18 years) will take centre stage, singing two songs each, competing for over $400 worth of prize money. A celebrity judge’s panel will comment, critique and crown the junior and senior idol champions.
Interested idol wannabe’s must complete pre-registrations via contacting Paul McConachie 543 8525 (paul.mcconachie@tasman.govt.nz) to be in to win.
The Great Mall of American Eating Competition
Hot Dogs and Fruit Pasty Cream Pies will be served up in copious quantities as Richmond searches for the greatest guts guzzler.
The main course will feature a maximum of 36 hunger munches’ spread across three heats consuming as many hot dogs as they can in a one minute period. The person who consumes the most hot dogs in this period will be crowned ‘hot dog eating champion’. This is an all ages/all gender open hot dog eating competition.
The dessert round will feature a maximum 24 people consuming a warm fruit pastry cream fruit pie as quickly as possible, without the use of any arms. The person who consumes the entire pie in the quickest time will be crowned ‘pie eating champion’. This is an all ages/all gender open pie eating competition.
Registrations will be taken on the day (from 2.30 pm).
Live Youth Performances
A selection of Nelson/Tasman’s finest young performers will also be on show to complement the afternoon’s line up.

As the sun sets, an evening of dancing, fine foods and mingling will unfold with a quintessential kiwi picnic featuring the best of local fare.
Eat, drink and be merry. Tasman’s finest authentic American themed food stall providers have teamed up with the best of classic kiwi cuisine stallholders to satisfy your taste buds. Richmond’s own Sprig n Fern beer, along with a selection of local wines will be on offer to quench the thirst.
Then dance the night away with ‘The American Invasion’ as they play your favorite American rock n roll songs.
