Owen River Recreation Reserve, Murchison

Owen River Recreation Reserve covers a large open grassed area at the confluence of the Owen and Buller rivers.  It ajoins State Highway 6 to the north.  The main access to the reserve is via a moderately-steep gravel road across private land from the highway beside the Owen River Tavern.

Facilities at the reserve include an open-sided shelter, toilet and shower units, concrete barbeque stands and picnic tables.

Camping

The reserve serves as a 'remote' campground and is popular with kayakers.  The proprietors of the Owen River Tavern collect camping fees on behalf of Council.
