Heritage Places

The Council has a role in protecting a wide variety of heritage places in the Tasman District. Heritage places can include:

  • Buildings – rural industrial, commercial, residential and church buildings;
  • Sites - archaeological and sites of significance to Māori;
  • Objects – war memorials and monuments.

Heritage places may be protected by policies and rules in the Tasman Resource Management Plan and/or by heritage covenants registered on the certificate of title to the property.

The Motueka Museum building shown below is more than 100 years old and was initially the Motueka District High School. It is now home to the Motueka Museum.
