Ellis Street Improvements

This page outlines plans for improvements to Ellis Street, Brightwater.

Background

Brightwater is a rapidly-growing community and with that comes some pressures on the main route through the village – Ellis Street.

We want to make sure Ellis Street - which is home to Brightwater School, the village shopping precinct, and forms part of Tasman’s Great Taste Trail - is safe for all users, as well as being an attractive public space.

To achieve that, we are looking at options for streetscaping and other improvements to Ellis Street.

Progress

We have begun talking to people in the Brighwater community about the improvements they would like to see on Ellis Street. Brightwater School students have been involved in some early brainstorming, and we have established a working group made up of representative from local business, the school, residents’ association, police, heavy haulage companies and others. The aim is to achieve a rich, successful design that reflects the community’s requirements and values.

We’re holding a public meeting to discuss ideas this month. Come along and join the conversation about the future of Ellis Street.
