Kaiteriteri Water Treatment Plant

This page details the Kaiteriteri Water Treatment Plant improvement project and provides regular updates.

Background

Tasman District Council has an ongoing programme to improve water treatment plants in the district to meet changes to the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards.

The Kaiteriteri plant needs improvements to meet the protozoa treatment requirements.

Currently Kaiteriteri and Main Road Riwaka receives water from a bore on River Road in Riwaka. The water is pumped directly into the water supply network with no treatment.

Planned improvements are:

  • Improve the bore headworks to reduce the risk of contamination of the bore
  • Drill a second bore as a backup should one bore be offline.
  • Build a small water treatment plant building with Ultra Violet (UV) light treatment

The design will also allow for future treatment of the pH of the water which, while not required under the drinking water standards, will improve the water quality for customers.
