Mapua Wharf and Pontoon Extension Project
Repair and future proofing work was completed in 2012. In early 2010 the floating pontoon attached to the north end of the wharf was damaged in a boating accident.
The damaged pontoon will be replaced with a slightly larger and much stronger facility. A longer access ramp will be put in place for ease of access and safety.
Specialist equipment will be required on-site to drive piles for securing the upgraded pontoon. This presents us with an opportunity to future proof the wharf for future development. Subject to cost, six additional piles may be installed to allow a future extension from the southern end of the wharf to the shoreline near the new Mapua Waterfront Park.
The Council has applied for a resource consent to carry out this work. The resource consent contains plans of the work, along with detailed information about the project.
