Dwellings
- There are 17,475 occupied dwellings and 2,538 unoccupied dwellings in Tasman Region (compared to 1,478,709 occupied dwellings and 159,273 unoccupied dwellings for New Zealand as a whole).
- At the time of the census there were 156 dwellings under construction in Tasman Region, compared with 13,560 under construction throughout New Zealand.
Home owership
- 62.7 percent of households in the Tasman District were in private occupied dwellings with or without a mortgage.
Rent
- In 2009 the average weekly rent for a two bedroom house in the Richmond and Waimea Wards was $299 and for a four bedroom was $423. This compares with $249 and $315 for the rest of the District.
Households
- 72.8 percent of all households in Tasman Region are one-family households compared with 69.1 percent in New Zealand as a whole.
- The average household size in Tasman Region is 2.6 people, compared with an average of 2.7 people for all of New Zealand.
