Tasman Village Plans 2009-2029

The Draft Long Term Plan 2012-2022 is currently being considered. Updated information will be posted following its adoption in June.

Important Note About the Draft Annual Plan 2011/2012

The Tasman District Council Draft Annual Plan 2011/2012 was adopted by the Council on 10 March 2011. This contains proposed changes from the 2009-2019 Ten Year Plan and the final list of projects will be confirmed by the end of June 2011following consultation with the public.

Tasman Village Settlement Profile

Tasman Village is a small rural service centre surrounded by land of high productive value much of which is zoned Rural 3.

The main issue for Tasman Village is that the lower part of the settlement is located on poorly drained clay loam which causes severe drainage difficulties, for effluent and stormwater disposal. This limits infill development. Some existing land has been unable to be fully utilised because of these poor effluent disposal conditions.

A TRMP Plan change to permit smaller allotment sizes could be considered if and when a reticulated sewage scheme is available. (Such a scheme is not provided in the Ten Year Plan.) Containment of urban development enables the continued use of the surrounding productive and versatile land. For traffic safety reasons, it is desirable that urban development at Tasman Village is contained on the west side of the main highway.

Tasman Village Population Growth

Estimates from Statistics New Zealand project the Tasman Village population growing from 166 in 2006 to 192 in 2031. This represents an annual average growth rate of 0.59%

  • Ongoing development of walkways and cycleways throughout the District.
  • Ongoing management, maintenance, planting and development of existing reserves and facilities.
  • Purchase and development of new reserves and facilities to meet the needs of the District’s growing population.
