Stopping Distances Demonstration Video
Regular stopping distance demonstrations are run throughout Tasman and Nelson. The demonstrations are normally held in conjunction with schools.
A trained driver shows the distance it takes to stop at various speeds. The key messages are:
- On average every year 17 New Zealand children are killed after being struck by vehicles.
- On average every week six New Zealand children go to hospital after being struck by vehicles.
- At 60kph compared to 50kph you will take almost 50% longer to stop.
