Street Numbering in Tasman
Tasman District Council allocates street numbers to all properties.
Basic Rules of Street Numbering
The basic rules for street numbering are even numbers on the right hand side and uneven numbers on the left while the number is allocated relating to the distance starting at the beginning of the road/street.
For example, 100 metres on the right hand is Number 10. Two kilometres or 2,000 metres on the right hand side is number 200. This is standard across New Zealand and allows for easy location for emergency services. Generally, rear properties down a right-of-way are allocated A,B,C etc in urban areas and sequential whole numbers for rural areas where possible.
Each address point is provided to Land Information New Zealand for inclusion in the national addressing database.
How Do I Get a Street Number?
Changing Your Address in the Phone Books
To assist visitors, emergency services, couriers and postal delivery staff to locate your property you may need to update your address in the phone books with your road or street number.
For the White Pages
Please contact your telephone provider. Explain your new address and ask them to update the White Pages. If you don’t ask them to do it, it won’t happen.
For example, Telecom subscribers should follow these steps:
- Dial 123, listen to the three options, press the # (hash) key.
- Ask for “home line new connection”. Confirm yes.
- You may get a message “Please hold until one of our customer service representatives is available”. Patience may be required.
- Explain your new address and ask them to update the White Pages. This is important.
For the Yellow Pages
If your business is listed in the Yellow Pages, simply phone 0800 803 803 and provide the correct address details.
