Trading in public places

Council controls certain activities that may take place in a public place. This page explains when licences or permits are required, and how to apply.

Our Trading in Public Places Bylaw has lapsed.

We are proposing replacing it with a more general Public Places Bylaw which aims to streamline several processes. Follow the process on Shape Tasman

The information below relates to the previous bylaw and may be subject to change once a new bylaw is adopted.

The types of activities that will require a licence or a permit are:

  • Mobile shops
  • Commercial services - photographs, portraits or soliciting commercial sexual services
  • Hawkers
  • Busking
  • Soliciting donations or selling raffle tickets.
