The design of the mural was based on the messages that young people sent to us during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. From the messages it was clear that youth appreciate the support and guidance of the adults in their lives, but they also require space, freedom, and opportunities to flourish and grow into their full potential. The desire to be listened and related to as peers was also very strong. The design uses native seedlings to symbolise youth and growth, and abstracted trees to speak of the nurturing role of adults. The colour palette represents the vibrancy we associate with youth and the diversity that makes our communities unique.

Stef Naldi
Italian born Stef Naldi is an Art & Media student at NMIT. Her interests include drawing, installation, abstract painting and participatory art.
Since last December, Stef has been running Pencil Case; a weekly drop-in sessions for drawing lovers of all ages and abilities. Originally held at the Refinery ArtSpace, Pencil Case went virtual during lockdown.
Her interest in drawing saw her involved in a recent community exhibition held at the Refinery ArtSpace: The Drawing Bug. Stef helped gather drawings from the community and co-created a space where visitors could take a moment out of their day to draw, using Pencil Case's prompts as inspiration.
Stef hopes to continue working on projects that promote art making in the community, while pursuing her own artistic interests.
