About 60% of the Tasman District Council is conservation land.
This is largely forested mountainous terrain in the three national parks Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes and Abel Tasman. There are a great number of tramping options from less than an hour to multi day excursions.
The Department of Conservation has publications and maps for the tracks and walks in the Tasman District. These are available for purchase at their offices and online.
The Top of the South Maps website shows tramping tracks in the Tasman / Nelson region. Once you have opened the map, select the layers icon and choose recreation. There are plenty of options.
